A discussion on space, in which theoretical physicist Samo Kováčik and astrophysicist Norbi Werner will speak with astrophysicists Tereza Jeřábková and Lýdia Štofanová, will cover two interlinked thematic areas, presenting space research in Brno and fundamental questions regarding the formation and evolution of the first galaxies.

Botanical seminar: Arkadiusz Nowak – Vegetation of Middle Asia: What we know and what needs further exploaration

Middle Asia is one of the world’s richest floristic regions. More than 10,000 species of vascular plants can be found here. At the same time, it is a very diverse region in terms of habitats and rich in a variety of vegetation types that were of little interest to geobotanists in the 20th century. In 2006, a team of Polish researchers began a long term programme of geobotanical exploration in Tajikistan and neighbouring countries. The research was summarised and the first comprehensive catalogue of vegetation communities for this area.
