The fields of neurology and neuropsychiatry have been developing dynamically recently, and there is growing interest in the role of various D-amino acids in neurobiology. This project aims to develop an LC-MS-based platform for the precise quantification of D- and L-amino acids in biological fluids. The platform will be optimized for high performance and robustnest in terms of diversity of matrices, sample volumes and analytes' concentrations, thus, it will provide a valuable tool for researchers studying the role of amino acids in various biological processes.

The primary focus of this project is to apply the developed platform to the investigation of neuropsychiatric disorders in cooperation with the department of psychiatry. This project has the potential to make a significant contribution to the field of amino acid research and the study of neuropsychiatric disorders. The availability of such an analytical platform will thus allow for future research collaborations and grant applications. Within the project, the suitability of the analytical platform for the clinical samples will be verified and preliminary data will be obtained. The follow-up grant project will aim on enhancing our understanding of the involvement of D-amino acids in neuropsychiatric disorders and exploring potential diagnostic and therapeutic implications.
